As one of the few exclusively estate producers in Sonoma Valley, Ty works with the grapes from soil to glass enabling him to make extraordinary wines that showcase the vineyard. The winery’s annual production is just under 10,000 cases with over 20 products, 11 being small production cabernet sauvignons (3-8 barrels) from each distinctive block on the property; so close in proximity, yet so different, as well as small blocks of Merlot, Syrah, Petite Sirah and Malbec.

Ty Caton Vineyards was established with his first release, the 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon. The Caton Vineyard is rich with an interesting history having been the site of a winery and vineyards that was founded in the 1920’s and ran consistently through prohibition and into the 1940’s.

In 2007, Ty and his wife, Kristen, opened the Ty Caton Vineyards wine tasting room in nearby Kenwood, California. Ty Caton Vineyards is a small family-owned winery where everyone pitches in. With a passion for the wines he creates, Ty works relentlessly at the winery being CEO, COO, and winemaker. Kristen fondly refers to herself as the “couch consultant,” participating in any major decision making for the winery and supporting the family business wherever there is a need. Ty’s parents, Brooke and Sandy, are often seen at the tasting room enjoying wine and socializing with our wine fans. Ty and Kristen’s children, Kendall and Connor, love running around the vineyard, tasting room, or winery on any given day learning about their parents’ business.

Since inception, Ty Caton wines have received critical acclaim in world renowned wine publications and competitions, including many Best of Class honors. As a grape grower and winemaker, Ty strives to produce the “wow factor” by making wines that are bold, beautifully structured and are a true representation of the vineyards they come from.

Located on the western slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains, the Caton Vineyard is a rugged setting ideally situated to grow world-class grapes in the Moon Mountain District of Sonoma Valley. The vineyard is blessed with an ideal climate with warm, moderate sunshine during the day and cool breezes in the evening. The 40-acre vineyard is spread out over 108 acres of steeply contoured hillsides that are as unique as the wines they produce. Each distinct block is defined by its different sun exposures, soil type, incline, clone, and elevation. The vineyard is farmed sustainable with a strong commitment to the stewardship of the land.
