The Spanish Wine Specialist Course

The Spanish Wine Specialist Program is a virtual course that features wines from the Iberian Peninsula. Every week, you will be taken on a fun and in-depth exploration of some of España’s most famous grape growing areas to understand the history, unique terroir, and key grape varieties of each region.

Introduction-Level Program Materials — $150.00 per registration
Includes access to the course and materials, plus 6 different bottles (each 750 ml in size) of regional wines to sample along with the course, one per week.
Intermediate-Level Program Materials — $250.00 per registration
Includes access to the course and materials, plus 11 different bottles (each 750 ml in size) of regional wines to sample along with the course, two per week for five weeks and one on the sixth.
Premium-Level Program Materials — $450.00 per registration
Includes access to the course and materials, plus 12 different bottles (each 750 ml in size) of regional wines to sample along with the course, two per week.

Week 1: Spain 101
Take a journey through some of Spain’s most Prestigeous wine regions with Spanish Wine Expert, Barry Wiss, Vice President of Trade Relations for Trinchero Family Estates.
Week 2: Mediterranean Coast
From Cava, to Penedes, Priorat, Montsant – down to Valencia, Jumilla and beyond – in this class we will review the part of Spain with Barcelona local, Nicole Andrus, Managing Director of European Imports for Trinchero Family Estates.
Week 3: Tempranillo Master Class
An in depth look into the Iberian Peninsula’s star variety. Many believe they know this grape well, but how would you define the difference between Ull de Llebre, Tinto Fino, Tinto de Toro, and Cencibel? Tempranillo has many derivatives and we delve deeply into each of them. During this Masterclass we will taste ‘Temps’ from throughout Iberia, providing you key insight into this grape’s multifaceted personality.

Week 4: Gorgeous Green Spain
In this session we will begin just south of Santiago de Compostella (does this town name ring a bell?) and learn about the maritime wines from, Rias Baxias, Ribera Sacra, Ribeiro & the inimitable Bierzo.Featuring: Emilio Canas, Terras Gaudas Winemaker
Week 5: Euskal Herria!
In this week’s class we will learn about the exceptional and diverse wines that hail from the Spain’s avant-garde culinary epicenter, the Basque country! Regions to be covered include Navarra, Rioja Alavesa & Txakoli!Featuring: Miguel Angel de Gregorio, Winemaker & Proprietor of Finca Allende & Finca Nueva
Week 6: Spain’s Sweet Libations & quiz!
Spain is not only known for stellar still & sparkling wines, but also for sherry, patxaran, vino dulce, vi ranci, orujo and many other intriguing libations. In the first 15 mins Barry will focus on the aperitif & dessert options from Spain & then follow with a 15 min quiz, where top scores will win prizes!
